Homemade Almond Butter

Good Monday!  Looking to try something new this week?  How about your own homemade almond butter?

I know what you are thinking......Really?! Sounds like a lot of work.....I think I will just stick to the jar I pick up at the store.  But I encourage you to give this a go.  It is so delicious and you will find great joy knowing that you put the effort and love into making something so nourishing for your body.

Here is what need:

3 cups of raw almonds
Maple syrup
2-3 tablespoons of ground flax
2-3 tablespoons of chia seeds (Click here to find out about the wonderful benefits of chia seeds)
2-3 tablespoons of hemp seeds
2 teaspoons of vanilla
cinnamon
Grape seed oil
Vitamix or Food Processor

Here is what you do:

Place almond in a bowl.  Drizzle with maple syrup until lightly coated.  Add the flax, chia, hemp, vanilla and stir until well coated.  Sprinkle with cinnamon.

Line a baking sheet and spray with cooking oil.  Spread almonds on the sheet and roast for 20 minutes at 300 degrees.  Stir.  Roast for 10 more minutes.

Remove and let cool completely.

If you have a Vitamix (which I highly recommend) you can complete this process in about 1 minute.  If you do not have a one you can also use a food processor, but it will take much longer and a bit more attention.

Place the cooled almonds in your machine of choice and add a splash of grape seed oil (a tablespoon or two).

Vitamix users: Start your blender on low, increasing to level 10 and then ramp up the power to high.  Use the damper to help move the nuts around.  You will see the almonds turn into almond butter very quickly.  It only takes about a minute.  Stop when you reach the desired consistency.

Food processor users:  Add the almonds and a bit of grape seed oil.  Process until the almonds reach your desired consistency.  You will have to stop the machine often and scrap down the sides. This is the time consuming part.

Store in a ball jar or glass container and keep in the fridge.

Once your almond butter is complete here comes the fun part. Spread on your favorite bread, eat it with an apple, stir it into oatmeal, make a delicious almond butter and jelly sandwich. ENJOY!

Peace,
J
